State Representative Johanna López is a dedicated public servant, single mother of four, grandmother, and advisor to both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. A proud daughter and mother of veterans—and a survivor of domestic violence—she has led her life and career with resilience, determination, and purpose.

She grew up in a public housing project in Puerto Rico, where she learned early the value of hard work, community, and perseverance. After moving to Orlando, she worked at the MCO

Airport car wash and a fast-food restaurant to help support her family—experiences that shaped her deep commitment to serving others.

In 2017, she was named Orange County Teacher of the Year, and soon after made history as the first Latina elected to the Orange County School Board—setting the stage for a career marked by breaking barriers.

During her time on the School Board, she led efforts to rename a middle school, removing a Confederate name and honoring the legacy of Roberto Clemente Walker—a powerful step toward inclusivity, respect, and reflecting the values of the community. In 2022, she was elected to represent District 43 in the Florida House of Representatives and was re-elected in 2024.

Known for her effectiveness and ability to work across the aisle, Representative López has championed legislation that protects families, strengthens communities, and expands opportunity. Her work focuses on improving healthcare access in critical-need areas, strengthening accountability in cases of medical negligence, protecting children and foster families, advancing animal welfare, and expanding pathways for students to earn their high school diplomas. She has also successfully passed legislation supporting immigrant families and advancing consumer policies that promote environmental sustainability and public well-being.
